AutoTarget by Vincent of Blackhand (D.A.Down)

  1. Intro:
AutoTarget is a WoW add-on for automatically selecting the first target that you mouseoverm that matches your targeting configuration. I got frustrated with not being able to find a specified target, missing a click on a moving target and having trouble selecting the desired target out of a group. With this addon, you just set up your targetting configuration pass your mouse over potential targets. The first match found will be selected as your current target.

  2. Installing:
Just unzip AutoTarget into your "World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns" folder.

  3. Configuration:
Enter the command '/at config' to bring up the configuration window (or use the key binding). Check the On button to enable targeting and select the desired categories for targeting. By default, the On button will be reset when you log on, but the command '/at on' will toggle this.

If level or health isn't specified (or = 0), it won't be filtered. Note that a target must match at least one of the checkable attributes to be selected. If it also has an attribute that is not selected, it will not be targetted! Only the checkable attributes will be saved on logout.

If one or more names are specified, at least one name must match. Lowercase and partial names are fine. Lua string matching templates can also be used.

Lowest health: To find the target with the least health (most damage), set max health to 99 and hold down the Control key while scanning targets.

Type, Class and Family: These are drop-down menus from the corresponding labels. Multiple menu selections can be made. If no selection is made, the group won't be filtered. Making selections in more than one group will usually create a filter that can't be matched. Note: Class selections are only for players (the player attribute must be enabled) and Family selections are only for beasts.

The drop-down menu labels are colored green when no selections are active. This changes to yellow when the filter is active so that you will be reminded to reset it when no longer needed.

  4. Use:
When AutoTarget is turned on (use '/at' or key binding to toggle), it will check each potential target that your mouse passes over. If you currently don't have a living selected target, it will target the first match that it finds. A 'click' sound will be made when a target is selected. To clear a selected target, either use the Escape key or the Clear Target key binding.

You can replace the current target if you hold down the Control key while passing your mouse over potential targets. This will let you consider multiple matching targets and you can stop when you have targetted the one you prefer. If you have specified a Max Health, it will only change targets if the new target has less health than the current one.

Hunter's Mark is not needed if you are hunting solo because you have to already have a target before it can be marked. Leaving this unselected will prevent you from targeting a unit that another hunter has already marked. This selection is for when you are in a group with a hunter and you want to easily select the target that they have marked.

Note: Normally, targets are selected for attacking, so neutral NPCs that can't be attacked will not be selected unless friendly targets are also enabled. This makes it easier to only select non-hostile mobs that can be attacked.

  5. PvP target log:
When in a contested zone, it is useful to quickly identify hostile PvP targets. Enter the command '/at log' to toggle PvP target logging. When it is one just passing the mouse over a hostile PvP target will display the target name, level and class in the chat window. The names will be stored in a list so that only new targets will be displayed (this eliminates spam when trying to identify all members of a hostile group). The log setting is remembered between logins, but the list isn't.

The hostile PvP targets will be identified regardless of whether you currently have a target selected and it will not interfere with normal target selection. The list of currently identified targets can be displayed by entering '/at log'. The list is cleared when logging is disabled or you log out.

  6. Commands:
These are the available chat line commands:
    /at – Toggle auto-targeting on or off.
/at config – Toggle the configuration window.
/at debug – Toggle debug tracing.
/at list – Displays the PvP target log.
/at log – Toggle PvP target logging.
/at on – Toggle auto-targeting default on login on or off.

  7. Key Bindings:
To save typing, the '/at' and the '/at config' commands can be bound to a key in the Key Bindings window, which is selected from the Main Menu. There is also a key binding for clearing the current target and for switching to the target of the current target.

  8. Debug mode:
If you aren't selecting the expected targets, enter the command '/at debug' to toggle debug tracing. When debug is on, AutoTarget will display each unselected target's name and why it was skipped in the current chat window. Only the first attribute that doesn't match will be displayed. If no tracing occurs, either you don't have targeting turned on or you already have a target selected.
